Our end of the year party will be Wednesday, June 10th from 10:00-1:00 at Caughlin Park right next to school. We will be having pizzas for lunch and enjoying a great afternoon with friends. We would love some help with fruit, vegetables, juice, water and desserts. We need enough for our class of 36 kids. Please email me to let me know if you are able to help bring something in or if you will be able to help at the party. ddrlik@washoeschools.net
Thank you,

The Chicks are Here!
I'm happy to announce that the chicks have hatched. We were lucky enough to watch the first one hatch. It was very exciting to see! We were surprised the next morning to find that three more had hatched. The last one hatched right as the morning bell rang. We have 5 fluffy and loud baby chicks!

Brainpop Quizzes
A few Brainpop quizzes will be going home in the Friday Folders this week. Every time you see one these quizzes this is what has immediately lead up to it:
-the students watched the Brainpop video on that topic
-we took the quiz together as a class so every student was given all the answers
- the students then take the quiz on paper that is the same as the quiz we took together.
Because the answers are all given and discussed prior to the paper quiz being given, these quizzes are sometimes also a "Listening" grade as well as a grade for the academic content area that they fall in.

MAPS Testing
Welcome back! We hope you had a wonderful winter break! We just received the MAPS testing schedule. Here are our days and times to test:
MAPS Reading: Friday, January 30th
Boys at 9:00
Girls at 12:30
MAPS Math: Wednesday, February 4th
Girls at 9:00
Boys at 12:30
There is no way to really "prepare" for the MAPS test. Every child will end up with a different test that the computer generates specifically for them based on how they are answering the questions. Some areas that we feel tend to show up more often that students may struggle with are fractions, money, time, geometry and data (graphs). Choosing these areas on IXL would be great practice.
